另外，在某些词组中，表示身体部位的名词前常加the, 如：
They pulled her by the hair.
他们扯她的头发。
He gave me a pat on the back.
他拍了一下我的背。
He hit me on the chin.
他冲我下巴打了一拳。
定冠词还可和某些名词连用，表示一个民族、阶级或阶层：
The Chinese people are industrious and brave.
中国人民勤劳勇敢。
Life was hard for the working class.
那时工人阶级生活是苦的。
For years she lived among the peasants.
她在农民中间生活了许多年。
the proletariat 无产阶级
the bourgeoisie 资产阶级
the intelligentsia (intellectuals) 知识分子
