    Comparative study of different tests in diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection

    Abstract

    AIM To seek a better diagnostic test for detecting Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection.

    METHODS Gastric antral biopsy specimens from 150 patients (84 males and 66 females, aged 18-80, mean 45 years) with gastritis, peptic ulcers and carcinomas were studied. All the specimens were examined by histology, urease test, rapid urease test and serology.

    RESULTS Hp positive rates of Hp-IgG, Warthin-Starry stain, urease test and rapid urease test were 78.7%, 58.0%, 48.7% and 48.0%, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of rapid urease test were 82.8% and 100%. The sensitivity of one specimen and two specimens by rapid urease test were 86.4% and 79.1%, showing no significant difference (P>0.05), the specificity was 100%. ......
