    Abstract

    AIM To observe the therapeutic and preventic effects of lyci um bararum polysacharide (LBP) on streptozotocin-induced islet injury in mice.

    METHODS Mice were injected ip with streptozocin(STZ) 150mg·kg ^-1 to induce diabetic model. The diabetic mice were given LBP 50mg·kg^-1,100 mg·kg^-1, ig. The blood samples were taken at 1.5h after trea tment to observe the effects of LBP. The mice were prevented with LBP for 3d, th en injected ip with STZ 105mg·kg^-1. After intoxicated, the mice were tre ated with LBP for another 3d. At 5h after the last treatment, blood and pancreas were taken to determine insulin (Ins) and islets. Blood glucose (Glu) was deter mined using one-touch basic Glu meter. Serum Ins was determined by radio-immun oassay. The pancreas and islets were examined under microscope. ......
