Chinese and German scientists write "DNA" with DNA
Professors Hu Jun, Li Minqian et al of Shanghai Institute of Atomic Nucleus of Chinese Academy of Science and Shanghai University of Communication recently in cooperation with scientists in a university of Germany, realized the nanometer manipulation on single biomacromolecule on the nanometer scale to compose "DNA" with DNA molecular chain. This is an undertaking signifying the commencement of searching the mystery of human life.
The scientists of the two countries of China and Germany using the nanometer microscopic technique of atomic powered microscopy with the magnification power of one hundred million fold, carried out "detachment operation" for a single DNA in the nanometer grade. At first, they carefully stretched straight an intact DNA molecular chain that tangled in a mass, and then put it into a two dimensional network in an intersection of multiple folded network. Then, they took advantage of the atomic interaction, proceeded with the section, bending, trimming on the molecular chain and finally composed the three syllables of "DNA", with each syllable of a length of 300 and a width of 200 nanometers.
Professor Li Minqian recommended that in the process of stretching the folded DNA molecule prior to "composing", signified the possibility of mankind to unfold the ultra-structure of a single DNA molecular chain, and to manipulate on the latter for the realization of modification of its structure, to form the nanometer structural configuration or figure.
