     Investigation of the blood donors treponema pallidum infection in Xian

    【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the blood donors, treponema pallidum infection rate in Xian to lay a scientific foundation for safe blood trasfusion. METHODS: TRUST and were used ELISA to screen the antibody against treponema pallidum of the blood donors, samples from 1999 to 2002. The positive samples were confirmed by TPPA again. Compare different infection rates between periods, age and occupations. RESULTS: Two hundred and fortysix (0.241%) samples were positive in all 85 474 donors. The infection rate increased rapidly from 1999 to 2002. The infection rate (P<0.01) of persons between 31 and 50 years old were the highest. staff and selfemployed labourer had higher infection rate than others persons (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Treponema pallidum infection rate is very high in blood donors and increasing in recent years in Xian. ......
