Alteration of substantia nigra and striatum ultrastructure in hemiparkinsonism monkey model

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To observe the ultrastructure alteration of the substantia nigra and

    striatum in the hemiparkinsonism monkey model. METHODS: Two hemiparkinsonian monkey models

    were induced by injecting 1ª²methylª²4ª²phenylª²1,2,3,6 tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) unilaterally

    into the right internal carotid artery. Transmission electron microscope was used to observe

    the alteration of ultrastructure of neurons and gliacytes in the substantia nigra and striatum.

    RESULTS: Pathological changes of the substantia nigra and striatum ultrastructure were found

    in the MPTP injected side of the hemiparkinsonism monkey models, which included swelling and

    partial vacuoles of mitochondria, dilation of granular endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complex, ......
