     Protective role of βaescinate against focal cerebral ischemia in rats

    【Abstract】AIM: To study the protective role of βaescinate against focal cerebral ischemia in rats. METHODS: Forty male SD rats (body weight 280-320 g) were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=10 each): Control group, Group βAe5, GroupβAe10 and GroupβAe20. The rats in the Control group were injected 2 mL saline, while the rats in the other three groups were injected 5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg βAescinate 30 min before middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) with 30 nylon monofilament, respectively. MCAO lasted 120 minutes. The neurological outcome of each group was evaluated at 24 h after operation. The infarct volume of each group was then assessed by TTC staining. RESULTS: The neurologic deficit scores (NDS) of Group βAe5 (1.2±0.9), Group βAe10 (1.1±0.7), and Group βAe20 (1.2±0.8) at 24 h were lower than that of the Control group (2.1±0.6), P<0.05.
