【Abstract】 AIM: To study the effect and clinical significance of mild hypothermia on serum interleukin1β, interleukin6 and tumor necrosis factorαlevels in patients after traumatic brain injury. METHODS: 48 patients with traumatic brain injury were divided into two groups randomly. 25 cases of the hypothermia group underwent hypothermia of 33~35℃ for 35 days after injury, and 23 cases of the normothermic group were maintained at normothermic levels (36~37℃). By using radioimmunoassay, serum IL1β, IL6 and TNFα levels at 1, 3, 5, 10 d after injury were measured. Other 15 voluntary heathy people were selected to determine normal ranges. RESULTS: The serum IL1β, IL6 and TNFα levels ﹙μg·L-1﹚ in the injury patients were 60.7±9.1, 100.5±24.4, 17.7±4.2 respectively, significantly higher than that of heathy people 33.6±13.5, 58.3±5.3, 9.1±0.6. In the hypothermia group, the serum IL1β, IL6 and TNFαl evels were significantly lower than the normothermic group. CONCLUSION: Serum IL1β, IL6 and TNFα levels are increased after traumatic brain injury; and mild hypothermia therapy can decrease them. ......
