【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the impact of neonatal dog peripheral mononuclear cells transplantation on the left ventricular remodeling following acute myocardium infarction. METHODS: Mononuclear cells from neonatal dogs were isolated and purified. The descending coronary arteries of mature dogs were ligated and the cells were injected into the border zone of the infracted region. The control group was injected with serumfree culture medium. Thansthoracic echocardiogram (HP–sonos 5500, 3.5 MH ) was performed preoperation, 2 and 30 days after operation to determine the changes of left ventricular morphology, heart function and myocardium stress. RESULTS: Left ventricular (LV) dilation and heart function deterioration were found in both the transplantation and control groups. There were no striking differences between the two groups. 30 days after operation, LV dilation and stress in the transplantation group were milder than that in the control group. The systolic and diastolic functions were well preserved after mononuclear cell transplantation. CONCLUSION: Transplantation of peripheral mononuclear cells from neonatal dogs into the infarcted regions can relieve left ventricular remodeling and maintain normal heart function. ......
