     Changes of electroretinogram in earlystage diabetic rats

    【Abstract】 AIM: To observe the changes of electroretinogram of SpragueDawley rats with earlystage (within 5 weeks) diabetes. METHODS: According to standard program recommended by International Society for Clinical Visual Electrophysiology, we recorded the rodresponse, maxresponse, oscillatory potentials (OPs), photopic electroretinograph (photERG) and 20 Hz flicker response in earlystage diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ) and agematched control ones. RESULTS: Before and at the first week after onset of diabetes, the ERG of diabetic rats did not differ significantly from that of control ones but at the second and fifth week, the implicit times of b wave of rodresponse, b wave of maxresponse, O2 wave of OPs and b wave of photERG of diabetic rats were respectively prolonged significantly compared to those of control ones. However, no significant difference was found between the ERG amplitudes of diabetic rats and those of control ones. CONCLUSION: The observations indicate that the implicit times of b wave of rodresponse, b wave of maxresponse, O2 wave of OPs and b wave of photERG are respectively prolonged significantly in earlystage diabetic rats, which can be used as indicators inspecting the early development of diabetic retinopathy. ......
