Abstract : Aim To investigate the active constituents responsible for the pharmacological activities of Angelica sinensis
(Oliv) Diels. Methods Chromatography was used to isolate chemical components , and spectroscopy was used to identify
their structures. Results Seven compounds were isolated and their structures were identified as ferulic acid (1) , conife2
rylferulate (2) , bis (22ethylhexyl) phthalate (3) , dibutyl phthalate (4) , lignoceric acid (5) , palmitic acid (6) , and Z 26 ,72cis2dihydroxyligustilide (7) . Conclusion Bis (22ethylhexyl) phthalate and dibutyl phthalate were obtained from Angeli2
ca sinensis for the first time.

The roots of Angelica sinensis (Oliv. ) Diels. ( Um2
bellifeae) , known as Danggui in China , is used quite fre2
quently in the prescriptions of traditional Chinese medi2
cine. It has been used for tonifying blood and treating
anemia , female irregular menstruation and ameno2
rrhoea
[1 ]
. However , the relationship between the chemi2
cal constituents and pharmacological actions is not very
clear. We have previously reported the isolation and
structural elucidation of five ligustilides
[2 ]
. We herein re2
port the isolation and structural elucidation of seven other
compounds , which were identified as ferulic acid (1) ,coniferylferulate (2) , bis (22ethylhexyl) phthalate (3) ,dibutyl phthalate (4) , lignoceric acid (5) , palmitic acid
(6) and Z 26 ,72cis2dihydroxyligustilide (7) . Compounds 3
and 4 were obtained from the plant for the first time.

Equipment and reagents
Melting points were recorded using XT - 4A micro -
melting instrument , temperature being not corrected.

500 NMR instrument . ESI 2MS was recorded using a ZMD
Micro mass spectrometer , and EI 2MS was recorded using
AEI 2MS 250 mass spectrometer. High performance liquid
chromatography ( HPLC) was carried out using Waters
515 automatic system for preparative HPLC with chroma2
tographic column : Phenomenex C18 (2112 ×250 mm , 10
μ, 100 ! , Kromasil ) . Silica gel ( 200 - 300 mesh ,Qingdao Marine Chemical Factory) , Silica gel 60 F254 for
TLC and Prep TLC (Merck) , Sephadex LH220 (Pharma2
