Abstract
AIM: To investigate the expression of cyclooxy-genase-2 (COX-2) in gastric mucosa- associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and its correlation with cell proliferation and prognosis.
METHODS: The expression of COX-2 and PCNA (proliferating cell nuclear antigen) were detected in the specimens of gastric MALT lymphoma (n = 43) and normal cancer-adjacent mucosa (n = 10) by SP immunohistochemical method.
RESULTS: The rate of COX-2 expression in gastric MALT lymphoma was 55.8% (24/43), significantly higher that in the normal controls (45.8%, χ2 = 5.119, P = 0.024). The expression of COX-2 was correlated with clinical stages of gastric MALT lymphoma (χ2 = 4.408, P = 0.036). Mean proliferating index (MPI) was 41.5% ± 5.1% in gastric MALT lymphoma.
