Clinical and pathological characteristics of fatal acute pancreatitis

Abstract
AIMS The relation between clinical and pathological lesions of fatal acute pancreatitis of the acute hemorragic necrotic variety were studied.
METHODS All 110 patients with hemorrhagic necrotic pancreatitis with sudden death were documented by necropsy and pathological examination of systemic organs.
RESULTS The clinical characteristics were: painless, coma, shock and multiple systemic organ involvement. The morbidities of organ involvement were: pulmonary edema 89.1%, cardic 73.6% and cerebral edema 24.5%. It was found that the primary causes in this kind of pancreatitis are not faaty food, alcoholic drinks or gallstone. It should be noted that drugs and stresses might play a role in the development of fatal acute pancreatits. ......
