The protective effects of panax notoginseng on liver ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats

Abstract
AIM To study the protective effects of panax notoginseng saponins(PNGS) compared with verapamil in a partial hepatic ischemic animal model.
METHODS Twenty_four male SD rats with body weight of 300g～350g were divided into four groups (n=6), and Asakawa's method was used to create hepatic ischemia model in them. Normal saline was administered in simple hepatectomy group and control group, while the other two groups were given verapamil (1.25mg/kg) and PNGS (50mg/kg) 5 minutes before ischemia. The survival rates, liver function tests, histologic examination and MDA and SOD test 90 minutes after ischemia were recorded respectively. ......
