【摘要】 目的 了解和掌握云南省5岁以下儿童死亡原因及趋势，提出干预措施。 方法 按照中国妇幼卫生监测方案要求进行资料的收集和整理，对1999～2003年5岁以下儿童死亡情况进行分析。 结果 5岁以下儿童死亡率逐年下降，死因依此为肺炎、新生儿窒息、意外、早产或低体重、腹泻。 结论 通过制定实施针对性的相应措施，做好围产期保健工作，提高产科、儿科质量，推广窒息复苏技术，普及科学育儿知识。5岁以下儿童死亡率将不断下降。
