    Abstract:The botany,cultivation,chemical constituents and phamacological effect of Geranium wifordii,a traditional medicine were introduced here,in case to provide some document basis for the further exploit and utilize of the drug.

    老鹳草是牛儿苗科植物牛儿苗及多种老鹳草的全草，是我国和其他一些国家常用的药材，是多年生草本，性辛、苦、平，归肝、肾、脾经，为少常用中药，具有祛风湿、通经络、筋骨酸痛、泄泻痢疾[1]等作用。中国药典2000版中收载牛儿苗科植物牛儿苗Erodium stehaianum Willd.、老鹳草Geranium wilfordii Maxim. 或野老鹳草Gernium carolinianum L.的干燥地上部分为老鹳草[2]。近几年来，一些药物工作者对其化学成分与药理作用进行深入研究，扩大其药用价值，下面就老鹳草的研究进展作一综述。

    牛儿苗始见于我国明代，基茎蔓细弱，呈紫红色，叶似芫荽，细瘦而稀疏，开五瓣小紫花，因其蒴果先端呈长喙状，亦称长嘴老鹳草，为明代滇南本草中所专指 ......
