    Abstract

    AIM: To investigate the anti-human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) activity of docetaxel and determine the potential radiosensitizing effect of docetaxel in vivo, and to further explore the mechanism of docetaxel-induced cell growth inhibition, apoptosis and radiosensitization at gene level.

    METHODS: Nude mice bearing HCC with a diameter of about 0.8 cm in the leg received 33 mg/kg docetaxel intraperitoneally, 10 Gy (5 Gy once) tumor irradiation, or both (radiation given 24 and 48 h after docetaxel treatment). The regression and regrowth of the tumors were followed until the tumor diameter reached 1.4 cm approximately.
