    Role of thyrotropin-releasing hormone in formation ofstress ulcer

    Abstract

    AIM:
To investigate the role ofthyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) in the rat ulcer induced bycold-restraint stress and its possible mechanism.

    

    METHODS:
Therat model of stress ulcer was constructed by cold-restraint method. Thechanges of gastric mucosa, gastric juice secretion, and gastric motilitywere evaluated after injection of TRH or TRH antiserum into the lateralventricle.

    

    RESULTS:
Threehours after the administration of TRH, severe damages were observed in thegastric mucosa of rats fasting for 24 h at room temperature. As comparedwith the control group, the volume of gastric juice secretion (5.5 ± 0.7mL/2 h vs 2.7 ± 0.6 mL/2 h, P < 0.01) and total acidoutput (539.4 ± 50.5 molHCl/2 h vs 317.7 ± 45.3 ?molHCl/2 h, P < 0.05) were increased markedly. Gastric wall mucussecretion was decreased (1.35 ± 0.08 vs 2.21 ± 0.11, P< 0.01), while the frequency of gastric contraction (1.2 ± 0.2 vs0.4 ± 0.1, P < 0.01), the width of contractive wave (17.2 ±2.0 vs 8.1 ± 1.1, P < 0.01), and the motility index perminute (90.3 ± 14.2 vs 13.2 ± 3.1, P < 0.01) wereelevated significantly.
