Effects of YiWeiChongJi on DNA content and AgNOR counting in epithelial cells of gastric mucosa in rats with precancerous lesion of gastric carcinoma

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To study the curative effects and the mechanism of YiWeiChongJi. METHODS: 50 rats were divided randomly and evenly into 5 groups: Normal group, Model group, Therapy group with high dosage of YiWeiChongJi, Therapy group with low dosage of YiWeiChongJi and Control group with WeiMeiSu. The pathological changes, AgNOR counting, DNA relative content and U levels of epithelial cells of gastric mucosa in each group were examined. RESULTS: In Model group, mucosa got thin and gland got atrophied in 87.5% of the rats, infiltration of inflammation cells presented in 100%. Intestinal metaplasia was seen in 66.5% of the rats and atypical hyperplasia in 37.5%. The AgNOR counting, DNA content and U level of epithelial cells increased markedly. However, in the Therapy group with low or high dosage of YiWeiChongJi, pathological changes ameliorated significantly (P<0.01). Compared with those of the Model group, the AgNOR counting and DNA content, U level of epithelial cells declined markedly, which were statistically different from those of the Control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: YiWeiChongJi can effectively reverse the precancerous lesions in gastric carcinoma and its mechanism of reversion probably relates to the reduction of DNA content and restraint of abnormal active hyperplasia. ......
