Important progress had been obtained in the project of stem cell research presided by Professor Lou Yijia of the college of pharmacology, Zhejiang University. In vitro oriented differentiation of embryonic stem cell into myocardial cell clone was successfully achieved; a new target of drug action was provided for developmental research in medicinal agents in China.

The subject of the research project was "A study of the intervention effect of in vitro orientation differentiation of embryonic stem cell"; it is a topic with financial assistance of the state foundation of natural science. As of September last year, Professor Luo et al utilized murine embryonic stem cells successfully cultured cardiomyocytes in a special culture medium, and established the experimental model for the in vitro orientated differentiation of embryonic stem cells into cardiomyocytes. This model was not only able to repeat the whole biological information during the development process of embryonic cardiomyocytes, reflecting the mechanism of pathogenesis and the developmental course and providing the target for drug action, but also valuable for a rapid preliminary assessment of the effect and reliability of the new medicinal agents. The success of this study reminded the possibility of mankind utilizing embryonic stem cells for establishment of research models to develop new drugs; and a new stage has come for the developmental research of new medicinal agents., 百拇医药
