3rd Military Medical University succeeds in intraluminal
treatment of multi-cavity dissection of aorta

Not long ago, a case of multi-locular dissecting aneurysm of the aorta was treated and discharged from the Southwest hospital affiliated to the 3rd Military Medical University in good condition. The department of thoracic surgery of this hospital had successfully performed intra-ocular blocking procedure for this case of multi-locular dissecting aneurysm. The patient was preliminarily diagnosed as severe hypertension in June and further examination revealed a dissecting aneurysm of the aorta of extensive extent, which covered the beginning portion of the descending aorta to the bifurcation of the abdominal aorta. It was even seldom that the lesion belonged to the dissecting variety in three chambers. Aortography showed ruptures at two sites, a bigger one situated at 0.5 cm at the upper portion of the abdominal aorta and another one at the descending thoracic aorta at the level of the 11th thoracic vertebra. If the conventional vascular transplantation method was used for the treatment, the mortality would be as high as 30 %, and there would the possibility of complication of renal insufficiency and paraplegia etc..

Under the instructions of well-known specialist of vascular surgery, Professor Wang Zhonggao, Professors Yang Junmin, You Jian et al performed intra-luminal treatment for this patient. The surgeons implanted tectorial membrane stent according to the length of the lesion and successfully blocked the intra-luminal lesion.
