【Abstract】 AIM: To explore the pathogenesis of cervical spondylosis by studying the structure and histochemical changes of the cervical intervertebral discs in patients with cervical spondylosis. METHODS: The morphological and histochemical changes of the cervical intervertebral discs in patients with cervical spondylosis (n=15) were observed by using light microscope and electron microscope. RESULTS: The collagen fibers were broken, widened and polymerized into big fibers. The necrotic cells increased, the acid phosphatase staining was positive and the activity of the alkaline phosphatase decreased, while PAS positive substance in the reaction of polysaccharide increased in patients with cervical spondylosis. CONCLUSION: The degeneration and protrusion of the cervical intervertebral discs play some important roles in cervical spondylosis. ......
