【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the oxidative injury on the whole body in mice induced by adriamycin injection and the protective effects of multiple antioxidants. METHODS: Mice were randomly divided into five groups: negative control group, positive control group, and three antioxidant protective groups. The negative control group was given normal saline by injection, while the other four groups were given adriamycin by intraperitoneal injection at the dosage of 5 mg/kg wt. The three protective groups were given multiple antioxiants by gavage at three different dosages daily, while the negative and positive control groups were given solvent by gavage for ten days. On the eleventh day, all the mice were killed. The serum and peripheral blood were obtained to examine the content of MDA, the activities of SOD and CAT, and the total content of hemoglobin. RESULTS: The content of MDA in the positive control group was much higher than that in the negative control group (P<0.05). The content of MDA in protective groups decreased by various degrees, but with the increasing of the antioxidant dosage, its protective effects decreased. The activities of TSOD in the positive control group decreased much more significantly than that in the negative group, and the activity of TSOD in the low dosage antioxidant group was obviously higher than that in the positive control group. Compared with that in the negative control group, the activities of CAT in the positive control group greatly increased (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The intraperitoneal injection of adriamycin can cause oxidative injury but the multiple antioxidants have some protective effects on it. Inappropriate dosage of antioxidant also can cause oxidative injury to the body. ......
