     Evaluation of early intervention in 64 children with HIE

    【Abstract】 AMI: To evaluate the effects of early intervention on the mental development, myodynamic development, bone density, bone structure and bone reserves in children with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). METHODS: Among the 64 HIE children, 34 were randomly chosen to undergo 18month intervention, which was characterized with “professional guidance and family involvement” and the other 30 children received routine nursing. At the same time, another 38 normal children about the same age as HIE group were assigned as the control. Tests on mental development and determination of bone density were given to each child every 3 months. RESULTS: ① HIE children with early intervention exhibited significantly higher MDI and PDI than those without intervention (P<0.05), while no significant difference was found compared with the control (P>0.05). ② SOS of HIE children with early intervention at the age of 1 year and 1.5 years was higher than that of those without intervention and the control. ③ Among the HIE children, 95% of those with early intervention recovered, while only 61% of those without early treatment recovered. CONCLUSION: ①Early intervention can help HIE children in their mental development and prevent sequela of HIE; ② Early intervention is also proved to be effective in the improvement of mental development, myodynamic development, bone density, bone structure and bone reserves. ......
