Analysis of factors affecting survival of patients with astrocytoma

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To evaluate the factors that affect the survival of patients with astrocytoma and to provide reasonable evidence for the evaluation of the efficacy of the therapy. METHODS: Clinical and radiological features of 104 patients, who had undergone operation from 1993¡«2000 were reviewed. The features were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analysis. RESULTS: Univariate statistical analysis revealed that factors such as tumor localization, enhancement, edema, tumorª²invaded lobes, seizure as the first symptom, recurrence of astrocytoma significantly affected the survival. Multivariate analysis revealed that the four factors that significantly affected the survival were: necrosis, the pathological grade, the KPS score before operation and the extent of resection. CONCLUSION£º The factors that significantly affect the survival of patients with astrocytomas are: Necrosis, the pathological grade, the KPS score before operation and the extent of resection. ......
