     Effects of infrasound on ultrastructure of rat myocardium

    【Abstract】 AIM: To observe the ultrastructure changes of rat myocardium after infrasound exposure. METHODS: One hundred male SpragueDawley rats were randomly divided into 10 groups(n=10): five control groups and five infrasound exposure groups. The rats of the five infrasound exposure groups were exposed 2 h daily to infrasound of 8 Hz, 130 dB for 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 d, and the ultrastructures of rat myocardium were observed by transmission electron microscope. RESULTS: The ultrastructure changes of myocardium in the infrasound exposure groups were: Nearly normal myocardium cells at 1 d, little swelled mitochondia at 7 d, more swelled mitochondia at 14 d, platelets aggregation seen in the myocardium at 21 d, and bleeding observed in the myocardium at 28 d. Damage of ultrastructure of myocardium increased gradually from 1 d to 28 d. CONCLUSION: Infrasound can damage the ultrastructure of myocardium, which is related to the infrasound exposure time. ......
