     Distribution of Nogo66 receptor in glial cells of white matter in adult rat spinal cord

    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the distribution of Nogo66 receptor (NgR) protein in the white matter of the adult rat spinal cord. METHODS: Adult male SpragueDawley rats were sacrificed to get the spinal cord. Immunohistochemical studies with light microscopy, confocal microscopy and electron microscopy were conducted to examine the distribution of NgR protein in the white matter of the adult rat spinal cord. RESULTS: At light microscopic level, NgR immunopositive fine spots could be identified, mainly at the periphery of the glial cell body and along their processes and seemingly in close relationship to the cell membrane. Ultrastructurally, the NgR immunopositive gold particles were localized at the gap junctions between astrocytes, between oligodendrocytes, or between astrocyte and oligodendrocyte. CONCLUSION: The present work provides morphological evidence for the presence of NgR in glial cells of adult rat spinal cord and its localization at the gap junctions, which indicates its possible modulatory function in glial intercellular communication. ......
