     Detection of antiganglioside antibodies in subacute and chronic inflammatory demylinating polyradiculoneuropathy

    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the levels of antibody to GM1 in sera and CSF of patients with subacute inflammatory demylinating polyradiculoneuropathy (SIDP) and chronic inflammatory demylinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) and to evaluate the clinical significance. METHODS: The levels of IgG and IgM antibody to GM1 in sera and CSF of 20 patients with CIDP and 8 patients with SIDP, 38 patients with other neurological disease and normal control group were detected by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: Compared to that in normal control and patients with other neurological disease, the positive rate of the IgG class antibody to GM1 in sera and CSF was much higher in SIDP group (P<0.05). Compared to that in normal control and patients with other neurological disease, the positive rate of both IgM and IgG class antibodies to GM1 had no significant difference in patients with CIDP. CONCLUSION: The studies indicate that the IgG class antibody to GM1 may be related to the pathogenesis of SIDP, but the role of the antibodies to GM1 in the CIDP pathogenesis needs further study. ......
