Expression of muc1 in breast cancer tissues and its clinical significance

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To investigate the expression of muc1 in breast cancer tissues, and to explore its clinical significance. METHODS: The expression level of MUC1 was detected by a detailed immunohistochemical analysis in 86 samples of breast carcinoma and in 40 samples of benign tumor tissues. RESULTS: The positivity rate of MUC1 in breast cancer was 56%, much higher than that in breast benign tumors, which was 8% (P©‚0.01). There was no relationship between the expression of MUC1 and the pathological types (P>0.05). In breast cancers with lymph node metastasis, the positivity rate of MUC1 was 65% and in breast cancers without metastasis, it was 44%. There was a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the high expression of MUC1 in breast cancer may be significant for the diagnosis of breast carcinoma. The high expression levels of MUC1 may be a prognostic factor for the treatment of breast cancer. ......
