Qiqin¢ñ for prevention and treatment of Coxsackievirus B3 viral myocarditis in mice

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To explore the inhibitive effect of Qiqin¢ñ on Coxsackie virus B3(CVB3), and its preventive and therapeutic effect on CVB3 viral myocarditis (VMC) in mice. METHODS: ¢ÙThe microdose cytopathogenic effect inhibition assay was used in Hepª²2 cell culture to investigate the way through which Qiqin¢ñinhibited the virus. ¢ÚBALB/c mice were infected by CVB3 and then randomly divided into control group and Qiqin¢ñ group. The mice were sacrificed on different days and the myocardial pathological scores were estimated. RESULTS: ¢ÙThe effective and nonª²toxic concentration of Qiqin¢ñ was 2.88 g/L and 1.44 g/L respectively. ¢ÚQiqin¢ñ directly inactivated CVB3 and inhibited the replication of CVB3 in cultured cells. Qiqin¢ñ also protected cells from viral infection. ¢ÛCompared with the infected control group, the myocardial pathological scores in Qiqin¢ñ group significantly decreased (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: In addition to inhibiting CVB3 in vitro, Qiqin¢ñ also has obvious therapeutic effect on CVB3 viral myocarditis in vivo in mice. ......
