Abstract
AIM: To investigate the relationship between previous dysenteric infection and the development of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
METHODS: Ninety-eight patients diagnosed with IBS in the Third People’s Hospital of Jianhu County from September, 2003 to October, 2005 were investigated. Of these patients, 22 cases who had previous history of bacterial dysentery were selected and their clinical data, including the gender, age, the types of dysentery (acute or chronic episode), and the forms of IBS (diarrhea predominant, constipation predominant, or their combinations), were analyzed ......
