    【Abstract】 AIM: To detect the expression of △Np63 gene in esophageal squamous cancer. METHODS: Fifty fresh tissue specimens as well as 21 peripheral blood samples of esophageal squamous cancer without chemotherapy and radiation, 15 paracancerous tissue specimens, 12 peripheral blood samples of gastric adenocarcinoma and 10 peripheral blood samples of healthy volunteer were used to detect △Np63 gene expression using immunohistochemistry and RTPCR. RESULTS: △Np63 gene expression in cancer tissues was upregulated compared with that in paracancerous tissue at both mRNA and protein levels (96% and 60% respectively, P<0.01). △Np63 mRNA was detected in 38% of the peripheral blood samples in esophageal squamous cancer but not in gastric adenocarcinoma and healthy volunteer. CONCLUSION: △Np63 mRNA of peripheral blood can be used as a tumor marker of esophageal squamous cancer. ......
