     Effects and mechanism of total flavones of buckwheat leaf in lowering serum glucose and lipid

    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the effects and mechanism of total flavones of buckwheat leaf (TFBL) in lowering serum glucose, lipid and antilipid peroxidation in diabetic and hyperlipidemia rats. METHODS: The diabetic and hyperlipid model of rats were established by streptozotocin and high lipid feed. The levels of serum glucose, TC, TG, insulin, MDA, SOD and insulin receptor of liver were detected after TFBL was administered orally with the dose of 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 g·kg-1 for 12 wk. RESULTS: TFBL obviously decreased the serum glucose, TG and LDLc (P<0.01), increased HDLc (P<0.01), enhanced both the insulin sensitivity index and the combination of insulin with receptor, and improved the glucose tolerance. TFBL also obviously lowered the content of MDA (P<0.01) and improved the SOD activity in blood. CONCLUSION: TFBL has the effects of reducing serum glucose, lipid, MDA, antilipid peroxidation and increasing the insulin receptor quantity and/or sensitivity. ......
