     Effect of ginsengmilkvetch declining sugar granule on islet β cells, peptide C and the release of insulin in diabetic rat

    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the effect of ginsengmilkvetch declining sugar granule (GMDSG) on islet β cells, peptide C and the release of insulin in diabetic rats, and to investigate the mechanism of declining blood glucose. METHODS: The diabetic rats were formed with injection of streptozotocin (STZ). We studied the effect of GMDSG by determining blood glucose, peptide C and insulin. The ultrastructure of islet β cells was also observed. RESULTS: After treatment with GMDSG (2.0 g·kg-1), fasting blood glucose of the diabetic rats was decreased gradually while peptide C and serum insulin were increased. Besides, GMDSG exerted obvious protective effect on islet β cells in diabetic rats. CONCLUSION: GMDSG exerts a good therapeutic effect on high blood glucose in diabetic rats and its mechanism may be related to the protective effect on islet β cells, thereby increase the insulin secretion. ......
