Harvesting of combined pancreas and kidney for the treatment of type Ⅱ diabetes with renal failure

【Abstract】 AIM: To discuss the harvesting and trimming of combined pancreas and kidney grafts from cadaveric donors and to examine the clinical outcome of typeⅡ diabetes with renal failure treated with simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation. METHODS: Pancreas, duodenum and kidney grafts were obtained with methods of hypothermia perfusion in situ and whole piece harvesting in 7 cases of cadavers. The simultaneous pancreas kidney transplantation was performed in 1 case which was diagnosed as type Ⅱ diabetes with renal failure. Renal allograft was placed in the left iliac fossa, whereas pancreas allograft in the right iliac fossa with pancreas exocrine drainage to bladder. RESULTS: The average warm ischemia time was 3 minutes. The average trimming time was 2 hours. The function of kidney and pancreas grafts recovered to normal in 2 days and 3 days after simultaneous pancreas kidney transplantation ......
