Expression and correlation of nuclear factorª²kappa B and survivin in epithelial ovarian tumor

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To investigate the expression of nuclear factorª²kappa B (NFª²§ÜB) and survivin in epithelial ovarian tumor and to study their correlation. METHODS: The expression of NFª²§ÜB p65 and survivin in 104 specimens of epithelial ovarian tumor was examined by SABC immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS: The positivity rates of NFª²§ÜB p65 of epithelial ovarian malignant tumors, borderline tumors, benign tumors and normal ovarian tissues were 71%, 44%, 40% and 0% respectively. The NFª²§ÜB p65 protein expression in malignant tumors was significantly higher than that in benign tumors and normal tissues (P<0.01). The expression of NFª²§ÜB p65 was positively correlated with the histological grade and clinical stage (P<0.05). High expression of NFª²§ÜB p65 was related to the lymph node metastasis of ovarian cancer (P<0.05). The positivity rates of survivin in epithelial ovarian malignant tumors and borderline tumors were 65% and 61%, respectively, significantly higher than those in the benign tumors and normal tissues (P<0.05). High expression of survivin was related to the clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of ovarian cancer (P<0.05). Positive NFª²§ÜB expression was strongly correlated with survivin expression (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: NFª²§ÜB and survivin may be useful markers for carcinogenesis and progression of malignant ovarian tumors, with close relation each other. ......
