    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To develop a new comprehensive trauma score method based on International Classification of Diseases (ICD)codes and evaluate the effectiveness of its application in maxillofacial injured patients. METHODS: The model of the new trauma score method was constructed by referring to those of some certain comprehensive trauma score method generally used around the world. Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC) analysis was employed to evaluate the effectiveness of outcome prediction for 611 maxillofacial injured patients using the new developed trauma score method. Statistical comparisons were performed between the area under the curve (AUC) for the new trauma score values and those of 3 types of ISS values derived from professional raters. RESULTS: The AUC for the new trauma score values was 0.6699, whose 95% confidence interval (CI) is from 0.6229 to 0.7168, and statistically different from 0.5 (P=0.0000). Statistical difference was found between the AUC for the new trauma score values and those of 3 types of ISS values of professional raters (P=0.0000). AUC for new trauma score was similar to those for MISS and RFISS but much larger than that for ISS. CONCLUSION: The new developed trauma score method, namely CISS method, which is effective in predicting the outcomes of trauma patients and more costª²effective, can be used as an ideal method to evaluate the trauma severity of maxillofacial injured patients. ......
