    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the genotype and characteristics of measles virus found in Xian city. METHODS: Measles viruses were separated from the pharynx swabs of suspected measles patients within 3 d of rash emergence. The total RNA was isolated from the measles virus by the phenolchloroform extraction method. Then we amplified the 450 bp nucleotide segment of carboxylterminal region of nucleoprotein gene by RTPCR, determined the sequence of the amplified segments, analyzed and compared the sequence with those in Genbank. RESULTS: Eight strains of positive measles virus were isolated from 13 samples of pharynx swabs, the positive rate 62%. All of the isolated viruses were H1 genotype of measles virus. CONCLUSION: H1 genotype remains predominant strain of measles virus circulating in Xian city, which is consistent with the strain of measles virus circulating in China. ......
