Abstract
AIM: To assess the therapeutic efficacy of spleen activation and intestine moistening for solw-transit constipation as well as its effect on the levels of gastrointestinal neurotic mediators such as serum nitric oxide (NO) and plasma substance P (SP).
METHODS: A total of 90 patients with slow-transit constipation were divided into group A (n = 60) and B (n = 30), treated with Mitong (a Chinese medicine for spleen activation and intestine moistening) and mosapride, respectively. Another 30 healthy individuals served as controls. Radioimmunoassay was used to examine the levels of serum NO and plasma SP before and after treatment ......
